A show of hands if you're tired of defaulting to the samelittle black dress or floral numberfor all of your wedding invites. Lack of funds for semi-formal or formalwear aside, it's hard to feel inspired by wedding attire limitations, especially once you've hit the age where the summer wedding season becomes a legitimate affair. With a myriad of "I dos" to sit through over the upcoming few months, I'm already feeling burnt out on what to wear. My Facebook timeline will tell you I've worn the same dress to the last threeblack-tie optional shindigs.
But the good news is I don't have to come up with an outfit all on my own. I've discovered some of the bestwedding guest outfit inspovia a simple scroll through my Instagram feed. Some of the most creative looks come from formal events thataren'tweddings, and I'm not too proud to steal styling tips or re-create an entire ensemble when my own imagination is lacking.
So I give you six chic-to-death wedding guest looks sitting in my Instagram "Copycat" folder. And since I'm in my mid-20s banking on using up my miles to get to all of the destination invites, I'm throwing in cheaper alternatives for good financial measure. If I have to dance to "Y.M.C.A." this many times until October, at least I'lllook good doing it.
Casual
Ballerina pink is a color I've failed to add to my wedding guest dress lexicon—the hue has always felta tad too bridesmaid-y to me—but I'm remedying that ASAP thanks to this look. This pretty puff-sleeve ankle-length dress looks put-together enough to beappropriate for a mid-day wedding, yet casual enough that I could wear iton a weekday dressed down with sneakers.

co*cktail
I typically steer clear of sleeved dresses when it comes to co*cktail attire, usually opting for a strapless or spaghetti strap dress. But Ali Tate Cutler's floral bodycon dress is convincing me that I need to give sleeves a try. Between the cat-eye sunglasses and the diamante adorned strappy sandals, I already know I'll be testing this look out for an LA-based wedding come summer.
Maybe it's a reflection of the industry I work in, but invites calling for "creative" attire have become increasingly common. It's a great opportunity for guests to display their personal sense of style without specific limitations. Sadly, this stunning vintage housecoat isn't mass-produced, but trust that I've set up alerts on eBay and Etsy in hopes of finding a similar jade green version. In the meantime, I'll be dreaming up alternate ways tochannel this brilliantensemble.
Any invitation that lists "black tie optional" at the bottomis, in my book, a sin that causes nothing but confusion. The optional aspect, especially when it's an afternoon event, results in a big gray area where you'll find yourself either underdressed or overdressed. That's why I'm opting for amini dress, but one that can easily look more dressed up with the right added accessories. If I start to feel too overdressed the minute I arrive, I can easily remove the tights and statement earrings andvoila. In two easy steps, my look has gone from full-blown formal to a more co*cktail appropriate affair.

Black Tie
I'll always abide bya dress code, but I'm not one to sacrifice my personal sense of style in lieu ofit. And while a traditional gown may not be my cup of tea, I still enjoy dressing up in a maxi length dress whenever I get the chance. This bold blue dress is just the energy I'm looking for as an alternativeto anotherho-hum formal look. The gold chain belt and square-toe heels only add to this outfit's playful edge.

Fit-and-flare Wedding Guest Dresses For Women Over 60
Fit-and-flare dresses whether knee-length or longer are chic and flattering. It has a defined waistline and fits closer to the body but is not too tight which makes it uncomfortable. This forgiving silhouette fits every body type.
For weddings both casual and formal, it helps for guests to know exactly what to expect. If you communicate thoughtfully and early, you can easily set a wedding dress code that fits your vision and adds to a positive guest experience. Plus, guests want to know what they should wear to best fit in at the event.
If you want to ensure you always look appropriate in your clothes as a 60-plus man, consider investing in classic, timeless pieces. Embracing classic men's fashion styles like a crisp oxford shirt, flat-front chinos, and white leather sneakers will make getting dressed easier and give you more confidence.
Don't wear any solid colour that is considered bridal. For me that's white, ivory, cream and blush. Pattern on white background should be fine. Don't wear any style that is obviously bridal.
To bring a bolder statement, go for brighter colors like magenta and coral. If you're attending a wedding in the evening, there are certain colors that can help you look your best and make an impression. If you're looking for something classic and timeless, dark colors like navy blue or black are always appropriate.
You can't go wrong with classic tea length wedding dress for older brides, and this lacy modern design is a prime example. With a gently flared skirt and vintage touches, it may just be the icing on the cake for your bridal look.
White is a classic and timeless choice for wedding attire that symbolises purity, new beginnings and the celebration of love. It's a beautiful option for brides of any age who want to embrace tradition or who simply love the elegance of a white gown.
The staff suggests that if a wedding is taking place at 4 p.m. or 5 p.m., you should wear something that easily transitions from day to night; any ceremony after 6 p.m. should be strictly co*cktail.
Between "black-tie optional" and "semi-formal," the language can be tricky to decipher. "While many couples would like their guests to arrive in black-tie attire, the most common wedding dress code is formal attire," says Alicia Mae, CEO of the New Jersey-based wedding planning company ILÈ Events.
Women should embrace wrap dresses, midi dresses or elegant jumpsuits. For men, if it's a daytime wedding, a light sport jacket, button-down shirt and relaxed chinos fit the bill. In the evening, go for darker colors, as later weddings tend to be more formal.
In your 70s, it's a good rule of thumb to avoid looking too prim, too girly, or preppy. However, it's the perfect time to experiment with arty styles like tailored sweater coats, wide-leg pants, unusual clutches, and colorful patterns.
When choosing clothes for elderly ladies, look for versatility in your garments, for example: Loose-fit skirts with elegant prints and pleats that spread easily while sitting. Trousers that pull on easily with back waist elastication for added comfort. Cardigans without buttons that are warm and easy to put on.
Many of this generation still prefer to wear the types of clothes that they wore when they were younger, which includes slacks, button-up shirts, sweaters and loafers. Other older men have moved on from their formal fashion days and prefer clothes that are still polished for someone their age, but feel more relaxed.
Crop tops, dresses with mesh on the sides, short skirts, plunging necklines, and form-fitting gowns are more appropriate for a night out than a wedding. A skimpy outfit will attract negative attention from other guests and take attention away from the bride; it also doesn't match the solemnity of the occasion.
Not all nuptials are black-tie affairs, and you want to ensure your attire as a wedding guest is appropriate for the occasion. If a dress code isn't specified on the wedding invitation, you can generally gauge the type of soirée — and, therefore, how to dress for the wedding — based on the reception venue.
For the women, formal pantsuits or co*cktail dresses are great, but keep in mind the dress length should be just above the knee or longer. Take the time of day into account, as well: darker fabrics for evening weddings, lighter colors and fabrics are OK for daytime events.
One of the most popular Dress Codes, according to all of the Wedding Planners we consulted, 'co*cktail' implies dresses of around knee-length for ladies and a suit, or trousers and a blazer, with the option of a tie for men.
