CLARA V. WAKENIGHT
Services for Clara V. Wakenight, 57, 1720 7th St., a former Oregon resident, who died Tuesday in Rockford Memorial Hospital after a long illness will be at 11 a.m. in Farrell Funeral Home, Oregon. Burial will be in Daysville Cemetery. Survivors include four sons, Merle, James, and Kim, all of Rockford, and Kenneth, Cambria, Wis.; a daughter Ruth Webb, Caledonia; 14 grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Hightower, Mount Morris. DANIEL WAKENIGHT
Died on a Tuesday morning 3-6-1923 reaching the age of 92 yrs 5 mths and 18 days, Mr Wakenight being of a family of 7. He spent most of his boyhood out in Washington Co. MD. When he reached young manhood, he gained a desire to move out to the Western frontier, so he, with others moved as far West as Clark Co. OH. Here he met Lydia Kerns, with whom in 1855 he was united in Marriage. After their marriage they decided to move farther west. Together with others they started with horses and wagons, coming to Ogle Co, IL, settling in what is now called Pine Creek TWP, IL. In the year 1865, both Mr. and Mrs. Wakenight joined the United Brethren Church, where he held his membership until the time of his death. After having lived near Pine Creek for a period of time they then moved to the old homestead, where he and Mrs. Wakenight shared the joys and sorrows of life together.
In moving to this community Mr. and Mrs. Wakenight made the Church their place of worship, attending very faithfully. Their happy union was blessed with four children, John, Jacob, Cora, and Anna of whom Jacob and Cora have preceded their father in Death. Mrs. Wakenight departed this life on 1-29-1909. His funeral was held on Thursday, 3-8-1923 at the North Grove Evangelical Church, the Rev. Sienvisen of Forreston, preaching the funeral sermon.
Thus we find that neighbor Wakenight leaves to mourn his loss, his Son John, his Daughter Mrs. Anna Mayer, seven Grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a host of Friends. His Pall bearers were his six nephews: George A Gaffin, John D Croft, Edward Potter, Ernest and Elmer Wolf, and Frederick Gaffin, who peacefully laid him to rest beside his wife in the Cemetery adjoining the Church. DONALD WAKENIGHT
Donald E. Wakenight, 53, of Prophetstown, died Dec. 16, at CGH Medical Center. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Gardner Funeral Home, Prophetstown, burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-6 p.m. Sunday. A memorial fund has been established.
Wakenight was born Jan. 21, 1940, in Dixon, son of Raymond and Ethel (Johnson) Wakenight. He was a graduate of Rock Falls High School. On Jan. 19, 1940 (note wrong date), he married Rita Aldous in Sterling. He had been employed at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co., Sterling, where he worked in the conditioning yard of the 24" mill until retiring in January of this year. Wakenight was a avid gardener, and enjoyed many other things that kept him busy. He is survived by his wife; daughters, Sonya Alden of Rock Falls, Sheila Hendrix of Sterling, Donna Wakenight, Patty Ohnen, Jennifer Wakenight, and JoAnne Wakenight all of Prophetstown; sons, Donald J. and Raymond E. Wakenight, both of Prophetstown; a grandson; his mother, Ethel Quinn of Sterling; his father of Galt; and sisters, Linda Welker of Milledgeville. ETHEL B. WAKENIGHT
Mrs. Ethel B. Wakenight,71, rural Mt. Morris, died Dec. 18 in Rockford Memorial Hospital. She was a former Oregon resident. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Victor (Priscilla Mon, of Mt. Morris; two grandchildren; six great -grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs Blanche Schroeder and Mrs. Mildred Milliman, both of Oregon, Mrs Alice Dewey and Mrs. Elizabeth Hillison, both of Amboy, and Mrs Emma Draege, of Chana and one brother, John Andrew of Downey, Cali. GOLDIE WAKENIGHT
Mrs. Sylvester (Goldie) Wakenight, a former resident of Mt. Morris, died July 2nd in Anderson, MO. Where she was making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Daniels. Services were held in Anderson on July 5th. Survivors include her Husband of Oregon, two daughters, Mrs. Daniels and Mrs. Marie Noel of Lonigan MO., a son, Alvin Christiason of California; Two stepdaughters, Mrs. John Karr and Mrs. Elmer Cullen, both of Oregon [Mt. HARRY WAKENIGHT
Workman killed by falling tree on Lowden farm Crushed by a falling tree on former Governor Frank O. Lowden's Sinnissippi farm. Harry Wakenight, 52 yrs. old of Oregon, was instantly killed at 4:45 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Floyd Wakenight, young son of victim, witnessed his father's death. Wakenight, who was clearing timber on the Lowden farm, stumbled as he rushed from the path of a falling tree. The heavy timber broke his neck. Peter Weeberg of Oregon, Wakenight, and his son, Floyd composed a crew which has been at work on the Lowden farm timber this winter. Wakenight was born at Mt. Morris 52 years ago. He resided in Oregon 15 years, in which time he has labored at various jobs. Surviving are the widow and five young children. [Dixon telegraph, 1-4-1929]

ISABEL P. WAKENIGHT
In Pine Creek twp Wednesday, March 9th, 1881, Mrs. Isabel P. Wakenight, died. The deceased was a native of Washington County Maryland. She was married to Daniel Wakenight in 1816. They came from MD to Clark county, OH., in 1850 Where they resided about six years. From there they moved to Ogle Co. IL. Mrs. Wakenight was the mother of seven children, thirty grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She united with the Lutheran Church in 1829. Her funeral service was held in the Salem Dunkard church on last Friday in the Presence of a large congregation of friends and relatives, Elders Henderson and Price officiating. [Mt. Jennifer Lynn Wakenight, 28 days, 909 Furman St., died at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 1973, in Swedish American Hospital after a brief illness. Born Nov. 28, 1973 In Rockford, daughter of Kim and Sharon (Rogers) Wakenight. Survivors include: her parents, and one brother, Bradley, at home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Rogers, Rockford; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Wakenight, Rockford, and one great-grandmother, Mrs. Lola Rogers, Evanston.

LLOYD WAKENIGHT
Lloyd Wakenight of 202 W. Brayton RD., Mt. Morris, was born 5-29-1918 in Pine Creek Twp, son of Sylvester and Vernie Mae Wakenight. He married Mary Hambley on Sept. 18th, 1949 in Dixon IL. Wakenight was employed by Kable printing as an assistant pressman and had been a lifetime resident of Mt. Morris. He is survived by a son, James of Oregon, two grandchildren, his father, and two sisters . Mr. And Mrs. Wakenight were members of the Church of Brethren in Mt. Morris. LYDIA K. WAKENIGHT
Mrs. Lydia Kerns Wakenight was born in Clark Co., OH 2-26-1836 and died in her home in Leaf River Twp., Ogle Co. Illinois on 1-29-1909, aged 72 years, 11 months and 3 days. She was married to Daniel Wakenight March, 1855, she and her husband came to Ogle Co. in 1856, which since that time has been her home. To this union was born four children: John, Jacob, Cora , and Anna died. Cora and Jacob haveing preceded her to that other world. The funeral will be held on Sunday, January 31st at the North Grove Evangelical church. She leaves a husband and two children, three sisters and two brothers besides a host of friends to mourn her loss . She was a kind and xxxxing mother, always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need . In the year 1865 she was converted and joined the United Brethren Church, and remained a faithful member till the end. Her remains were peacefully laid to rest in the cemetery ajoining the church, by kind hands, who with their many friends sympathize with those who mourn the loss of their departed one . [MT. Mrs. Mary E. Wakenight was born on 1-19-1925 in Polo. The daughter of Albert and Verna Smyth Hambley. She was also employed by Kable news as a secretary. Besides her son and grandchildren, Mrs. Wakenight is survived by her father living in Freeport, eight brothers, Willard of Davis, Albert of Ovando MT, Lawrence of Milltown MT, Paul and Oscar of Freeport, Llewellyn of Davis, Earl of Oregon, and John of Dixon. Also eight sisters. There will be a double funeral for the couple in the Church Of the Brethren on Sunday at 2 p.m. Conducted by Rev. Warren Hoover with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. PEARL A. WAKENIGHT
Mrs. Pearl A. Wakenight, 213 West Front Street, joined the WAC (Women's Army Corps) July 28 and is at present takeing basic training at Ft. Lee, Virginia. Mrs. Wakenight's Husband, Pfc Roland A. Wakenight, was killed in action October 26, 1951 while serving with the 31st Infantry Division in Korea. SYLVESTER M. WAKENIGHT
Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 28th at 1:30 p.m. at the Finch funeral home Mt. Morris, for Sylvester M. Wakenight, 95, who resided at the Franklin Grove Nursing Center Franklin Grove IL. Mr. Wakenight died Monday Dec 24th at the health care center, following a short illness He was born Aug 1st 1884 in Mt. Morris, the son of John and Susan (Strock) Wakenight. He was married to Vernie Barnhart, Sept. 12th, 1917 in Mt. Morris. She preceded him in death In 1954. He was united in marriage with Goldie Christensen in 1956. She also preceded him In death in 1975. He was also preceded in death by two stepsons, Glen and Clarence Barnhart , and a son Lloyd Wakenight. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Elmer (June) Cullen of Oregon and Mrs. John (Nellie) Karr of Ashton: a step-son Alvin Christensen of California: two stepdaughters, Mrs. Marie Noll of Missouri, and Mrs. Dorothy Daniel of AZ, four grandchildren and eight great -grandchildren. Mr. Wakenight retired in 1954 after working at Kable Printing in the mailing Dept for 28 years. He Was a charter member of the Mt. Morris Moose Lodge 1551, a member of the Odd Fellows, and also the GAIU 95B Union. He was a member of the former Disciples Christian Church. The Rev. Mrs. Vernie Mae Wakenight of 412 West Brayton Rd., died in her home Friday morning At 6:30. She was born April 8th, 1879 in Pine Creek TWP and lived in the Mt. Morris area all her life. She was a life long member of the Church of the Brethren. Surviving are her husband, Sylvester Wakenight: two sons Lloyd of Mt. Morris, Clarence of Englewood CO: two daughters, Mrs. June Cullen of Oregon and Mrs. Nellie Karr of Cherry Valley and two brothers Roy and William Barnhart of Mt. Morris: four Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her Parents and one son. Services were held at 2:00 Monday afternoon in the Finch funeral home. The Rev. EDNA WALTON
Polo: Mrs. Edna Walton, 81, of Pillas Nursing Home in Shannon, died Sunday night at Freeport Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Brown-Seidel Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Olson of the Emanuel United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Rock Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. She was born June 2 1894 in Rock Grove Ill., the daughter of William and Sarah Fisher and married Lloyd Walton, Dec. 21, 1914. He preceded her in death Sept. 30, 1951. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Irma ) Seidel of Polo, two sons, Carlyle of Freeport and Early of Pecatonica; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. FRANCES WARHOP
Mrs John M. (Jack) Warhop of 621 S. Chicago Ave. died in a local hospital early today after a brief illness. The former Frances M. Helsinger was born in Lanark June 17, 1895, the daughter of Ira and Dora Helsinger. Her marriage to John M. Warhop took place in Islip, N. Y. Oct. 16, 1920. They lived there until returning to Freeport in 1958. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Her husband, a former New York Yankee baseball pitcher is the only immediate survivor. Her parents and a sister died previously. Service will be in the Schwarz Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. F. E. Bartling, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, will conduct the service. GUY WATERBURY
Guy Waterbury - 71, 110 W. Mason St., Polo, passed away Sunday at 5:30 p.m. at his home following a lingering illness. The body was removed to the McNabb Funeral Home where friends may call. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Emmanuel EUB Church of Polo, the Rev. Ira Wilson, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery. Mr. Waterbury was born April 11, 1885 in Polo, the son of Millard and Anna Bope Waterbury. He was married to Stella Eckles on May 12, 1908 in Polo. He was employed by the Polo Mutual Telephone Company for twenty years. Survivors are the widow, one son Virgil at home; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Geary, Lanark; four granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Stull, Oregon; Mrs. Leone Graeff, Shabbona; one brother, Maynard Waterbury, Sioux Falls S.D.; several nieces and nephews. HENRY W. WATERBURY
Last Saturday morning the bell announced the death of another of our citizens. This time it was a man in his prime, Henry M. Waterbury, aged 40 years lacking 12 days. Mr. W. had been poor health for a number years but the immediate caused of his death was abscess of the bowels which first manifested itself about seven weeks before his death. most of the time from that date he suffered intensely, but bore all with fortitude. - Polo Press [Undated Scrapbook Clipping - submitted by Karen Fyock]

MARY ELIZABETH CURTIS WATERBURY
Mary Elizabeth Curtis was the daughter of Edmund and Fannie Curtis and was born in the town of Lisle, Broome County, New York, May 6, 1836 and died at the old homestead in Eagle Point township, Thursday evening, October 13, 1904, aged 68 years, 5 months and 7 days. In an early day she came West with her parents, who settled in Ogle County, November 1, 1854, she was married to George W. P. Waterbury in the town of Buffalo, Ogle County. To this union were born four children, namely Mrs. Fannie P. Henderson, of Okarche, Oklahoma; Norman J., of Wichita, Kansas; Otis E., also of Wichita, Kansas and Victor N., who formerly resided in Hawley, Oklahoma, but who died about five years ago. AMOS COMSTOCK WILEY
Amos Comstock Wiley was born at Mt. Morris, Illinois, June 4th, 1861, and departed this life April 4th, 1930, at the age of 68 years and 10 months. He was the son of a Methodist minister and was brought up in that faith. His early childhood and young manhood were spent in Illinois and he finished his education in the Methodist college at Aurora, Illinois. He was united in marriage to Nancy Anne Delzell, October 18, 1888. They moved to Arkansas City, Kansas where were born their three children: Gertrude Leland (?), who is Mrs. Fred L. Jacobs of Tulsa, Oklahoma; William Amos Wiley of Houston, Texas and Edna Merle, who died at 3 years of age. Mr. Wiley engaged in business in Arkansas City, Kansas until he moved to Longton, Kansas, March 1929. Nancy Anne Wiley passed away April 12, 1909. On September 10, 1916, he was united in marriage with Bernice Mandene Book. She, the two children and seven grandchildren survive him. Funeral services were held in the Elk Falls M. E. church, with music by the male quartette. A brief address by Newton Hill. Quite a number of Longton and Elk Falls friends attended the funeral. There were beautiful floral tributes. MRS. EUGENE WILLIAMS
Mrs. Eugene Williams, who was a former resident of Polo, died Friday, March 4th, 1904, at her home in Pasadena, California. The remains, accompanied by her husband, arrived in Polo Tuesday evening. The funeral services will be held from the home of her sister, Mrs. J. B, Buswell, in Polo, Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Full obituary will be given next week. EUGENE C. WILLIAMS
Eugene C. Williams passed away at the Exchange hotel in Polo, last Saturday, Sept. 23. 1905, aged 54 years, 11 months and 27 days. He had been in poor health for many years but his last illness began just four weeks prior to his death when he suffered from a severe hemorrhage of the stomach while on the streets of Polo. All that medical skill could possibly accomplish was done for him but without avail. His death was expected for many days but he was of such a disposition that he was determined to get well and his great ambition was the means of prolonging his life for some time. It was only the day before his death that he gave up all hopes of getting well. Gastritis was the cause of his death. Eugene C. Williams was born September 26, 1850 at Mapleville, R. I. He was a direct descendant of Roger Williams, one of the founders of the Rhode Island colony. At the age of 6 years he came west with his parents, Seril and Maria Williams who settled at Rockford, Ill., and one year later moved to Freeport, Oct. 9, 1878 Mr. Williams was married to Miss Elizabeth V. Shoemaker of Polo, who passed away at Pasadena, Cal., March 4, 1904. They had no children. Mr. and Mrs. Williams continued to reside in Freeport where Mr. Williams followed the occupation of a photographer until 1881 when they moved to Eagle Point and engaged in farming on the Woodruff farm. Nineteen years ago he purchased a farm northeast of Polo where they lived for eight or nine years when he retired from farming to engage in the real estate business in Polo. After living in Polo for five or six years Mrs. Williams' health required a change of climate and they moved to Riverside, Cal., where Mr. Williams engaged in the real estate business and conducted an orange farm. They later moved to Pasadena where Mrs. Williams died March of last year. After his wife's death Mr. Williams came east again and after spending the summer of 1904 in mercantile business in Deer Park, Wis., he returned to Polo last fall and had a handsome Bungalow cottage in process of construction on West Colden street in this city at the time of his.......... CHARLES G. WINTERLAND
Charles G. Winterland - 55, of rural Oregon, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999 in his home. He worked at Swift & Company for 19 years and for the last 15 years was a fork lift operator at Borden Chemical. Mr. Winterland was born March 27, 1944, in Paynes Point to Harold and Anna (Van Briesen) Winterland. He married Bonnie Welsh on March 22, 1969 in DeKalb. He was a member of the Chana United Methodist Church and Pheasants Forever. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jeff (Jenni) Winterland of Dixon, Chad Winterland of DeKalb and Nathan Winterland at home; his mother of Rockford; three sisters, Connie (Glenn) Bennett of Oregon, Janice (Leslie) Gruben of Mesa, Ariz, and Sara (Terry) Lewis of Rockford; one sister-in-law, Dixie Winterland of Mesa, Ariz; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Oregon with the Rev. Alan Meyer of the Chana United Methodist Church and the Rev. SANDRA L. WINTERTON
Rochelle, IL -- Sandra Lynn Winterton, 58, of Rochelle IL passed away Tues. June 5, 2012 at the Rochelle Community Hospital. Sandy was born July 30, 1953 in Cairo, IL, the daughter of Milton and Mary (Mashburn) Bottom. Sandy worked as a floral assistant for 25 years at the Colonial Flower Shop and also worked for the VFW Post 3878 in Rochelle. She married Gordon Winterton May 22, 1995 and he preceded her Dec. 6, 1999. Sandy was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was an active member of the Lincoln Highway Festival for 8 years. Sandy is survived by one son: Zach (Katie) Asher of Lacon, IL; daughter: Shannon (John) Brandau of Wauconda, IL; 2 brothers: Allen (Sue) Bottom of Elgin, IL and Charles Bottom (Emily Morgan) of Elco, IL; 3 sisters: Naomi Baldwin of Rochelle, Anna (David) Newell of Kelso, MO and Phyllis Clary of Arena, WI; 4 grandchildren: Nolan Zachary Asher, Twins: Damon and Alex Brandau and Emmett Brandau; many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Sat. June 9, 2012 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle. CHARLES J. WOLF
Charles J. Wolf, 78, 411 N. Congress St., Polo, died at KSB Hospital, Dixon, Monday afternoon following a short illness. Private funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Brown-Siedell Funeral Home with the Rev. Wade Koggins, Dixon, and the Rev. Len Huff, officiating. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery. There will be no visitation at his request. Born on June 29, 1904 in Polo, the son of Daniel and Cora Hammer Wolf, he married Verna Brigham on Oct. 21, 1926 in Polo. He operated a Ford Car Agency in Polo for many years before retiring. He was a member of the First Christian Church, a charter member and past president of the Polo Rotary Club, a member of the Mystic Pie Lodge 187 AF & AM, the Freeport Consistory, the Rockford Tebala Temple, the Ogle County Shrine Club, the Dixon Illinois Elks Club, Polo Chamber of Commerce, the Polo Historical Society, and was a director of the Polo Continental Manor Nursing Home. Verna Wolf, 76, 411 N. Congress St., Polo, died Sunday at KSB Hospital, Dixon. Private services will be held on Tuesday in the Benson-Brown-Seidel Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery. There will be no visitation. A memorial has been established for the Polo Continental Manor Nursing home. Verna Wolf was born on Feb. 5, 1907 in Brookville, the daughter of Chester and Gertrude Barrington Brigham. On Oct 21, 1926, she married Charles Wolf in Polo. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Hildred Conner, Freeport and Mrs. Wilma Yahanke, Polo. Preceding her in death was her husband. ERMA M. WOLFE
Erma M. Wolfe, 87, 513 E. Colden St., Polo, died at 1 a.m. Saturday at KSB Hospital after a short illness. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Brown-Seidel Funeral Home with the Dr. R. Thomas Vosburgh of the Polo United Methodist church officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery, none Polo. Visitation is Sunday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will not be present. A memorial fund has been established in her memory. Mrs. Wolfe was born near Polo Sept. 12, 1901, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Gravenstein) Adams. She married Maynard Wolfe, Polo, Jan. 15, 1923. She was a member of the Polo United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, one son, Dr. Donald Wolfe, Rock Island, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Polo: Mary Louise Wooden, 18, Rt. 3, Polo, died of injuries in a two-car crash Sunday, at 1 a.m. on the Prairieville Rd. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Polo, with the Rev. J. J. Tetzlaff officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Miss Wooden was born April 16, 1952, in Sterling, the daughter of Floyd and Helen Johnson Wooden. She was a 1970 graduate from Polo High School. Survivors include the parents, one brother, Allan, Dixon; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Louise Wooden, Princeton, maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Johnson, Manlius; her fiance, Michael Holbrook, Rock Falls, to whom she was to be married Dec. 1. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Polo with Rev. David Schmidt offficiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 5-8:30 p.m. with the family present from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Benson-Brown-Sidel Funeral Home in Polo. She was born Jan 10, 1912 in Polo, the daughter of Frank and Bertha Rucker Folk. She was united in marriage to Harry Wuebben on April 21, 1934 in Polo. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and a charter member of Eagle Point Ladies Aid. Survivors include two sons, Harold of Dayton, Ohio and Larry of Polo; one daughter, Mrs. Walter (Joyce) Groen of Polo; four brothers, Robert Folk of Oregon, Harry Folk of Polo, Melvin Folk of Lanark and Ross Folk of Shannon; four sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (June) Miller and Mrs. Ted (Frances) Robins both of Mt. Morris, Mrs. Irvin (Helen) Schriener of Sterling and Mrs. Harvey (Viola) Dykema of Polo; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
